As per the latest reports, another new OTT streaming service has entered the fray. The service from Charter Communications will be offered to internet customers of Spectrum who do not subscribe to the video services of Spectrum. TV Essentials from Spectrum will be launching by the end of March and will feature more than sixty live channels, together with access to the on-demand content of the channel for a monthly charge of 14.99 dollars.
“Spectrum TV Essentials is an OTT offering designed to provide Spectrum internet-only customers a new low-price, high-value video option,” said Tom Rutledge, CEO and chairman of Charter in a press release. It is reported that the TV Essentials offering from Charter will be focusing on entertainment, lifestyle, and news. The service will be essentially sports-free. The complete lineup will be offered via the Spectrum TV app on all supported connected devices, including Android and iOS phones, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Kindle Fire, Xbox One, Samsung smart TVs and computers via SpectrumTV.com.
Making use of the app, viewers will be able to browse movies and shows by network or category, make a watch list of content, and set parental controls. It was also reported that Charter will be introducing a new Cloud DVR service on their Spectrum TV app.
While making TV Essentials, Charter made agreements with their programming partners Discovery, Viacom, AMC, A&E and Hallmark. As a result of these agreements, Spectrum TV Essentials will offer the networks like AMC, Animal Planet, A&E, American Heroes Channel, BBC America, AXS TV, BET Jams, BET, BET Her, BET Soul, Cheddar, CLEO TV, Bloomberg, CMT, Comedy Central, CMT Music, Destination America, Discovery Family, Cooking Channel, Discovery Family, DIY, Discovery, Discovery Life, Hallmark Drama, Game Show Network, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, Hallmark Channel, HGTV, HDNet Movies, Investigation Discovery, HISTORY, Lifetime, IFC, Lifetime, Logo, Lifetime Movie Network, MTV, MTV Live, MTVU, MTV2, MTV Classic, MotorTrend Network, Newsy, Nick Jr., NewsmaxTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Music, OWN, NickToons, Outdoor Channel, OWN, Science Channel, Teen Nick, Paramount Network, Sundance TV, Science Channel, TLC, Teen Nick, TV Land, Travel Channel, VH1, WEtv, The Weather Channel and Viceland.
Spectrum News will be included in the channel lineup offered in Los Angeles, Tampa, New York, Charlotte, Orlando, and many other markets. In addition, Spectrum Originals will also be offered via the service starting from the month of May. In the opinion of many experts in the field, this is the latest effort from the cable industry to hold on to unenthusiastic pay TV subscribers.
